Dr. Amit Mahesh Shelat

Amit Mahesh Shelat, D.O., M.P.A., completed medical school in 2002 at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. Dr. Shelat completed his neurology residency in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Program at North Shore- Long Island Jewish Health System under Dr. Ronald M. Kanner. During his residency he also received advanced training in electrodiagnostic medicine and clinical neurophysiology under the tutelage of Dr. S. Murthy Vishnubhakat. In 2006, Dr. Shelat was awarded the Neurology Residents’ Award by the Angioma Alliance for work related to cavernous malformations. Additionally, he has also been recognized by the American College of Physicians and the Medical Society of the State of New York for excellence in clinical science research. Dr. Shelat was awarded the clinical research prize by the North Shore-LIJ Health System Academic Competition in 2006 and has been recognized every year since then for excellence in clinical science research. Dr. Shelat completed his internship in internal medicine at Forest Hills Hospital and his osteopathic rotating internship at Plainview Hospital.
Dr. Shelat completed his undergraduate studies at New York University. In 1997, he graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and psychology with departmental honors. Additionally, in 2002 Dr. Shelat was awarded the Master of Public Administration degree from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.
He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, American College of Physicians, American Osteopathic Association and many other societies. He is also listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America.
